In my adventures as a comic book writer, I spend a lot of time at comic conventions.

As such, I run into some pretty cool cosplay, and I thought this would be a good place to share anything I found so amazing, cool, or unique that I actually stopped to take a picture.  If you want to see any pics in more detail, you can click on it for a full-size version.

COMIC CON, 2014

Alpha:
Ayeyaiyaiyaiyai!  I’ve never seen an Alpha before.  How does she SEE?  (I know it’s a girl because she took her helmet off later.)
Cosplay_Alpha

FLCL:
I’ve never seen any FLCL cosplay before, either, so this was a special treat. It’s high quality, too.  Check out that robot!
Cosplay_FLCL

Volunteer BMO:
This BMO was actually a volunteer helping our lines move smoothly. I thought it was rad that she dressed up!
Cosplay_BMOVolunteer

Iron Man Chain Mail:
If you’re gonna wear chain mail, it might as well have a bad-ass color scheme, right?  (Plus repulsors.  What good is chain mail without repulsors?)
Cosplay_IronManChainmail

Steampunk Buzz Lightyear and Little Bo Peep:
He called himself “Gas Lightyear” and was super in character.  She stood beside him and didn’t talk much.
Cosplay_SteampunkBuzzLightyear

Super Dalek Brothers:
Need I say more?
Cosplay_DalekMarioBrothers

Godzilla Saves:
These folks were protesting the religious posters with some pretty cool signs of their own.  I liked them so much, I took two pictures.  (If you can’t read them, click on the pic for a full-size version.)

ANIME EXPO, 2014

Brave Little Toaster:
I just saw this movie for the first time right before the con, so his costume really struck me.

WONDER CON, 2014

Goldar and Green Ranger:
These guys could have come straight off the set of “Power Rangers.”  Holy smokes.  (Why are they getting along so well?)

Crockercorp:
I’m not super familiar with Crockercorp, but her gun was so big (and homemade) that I had to take a pic.  I should have taken a second pic to show you how long the barrel of that gun is.  (Plus, a Mario hat.  I love looking at the random awesomeness that I capture in the background of these photos.)

Lucca:
This is the only Chrono Trigger cosplay I’ve ever seen, and I’m pretty sure Chrono Trigger is my favorite video game.  So this blew my mind.
Cosplay_Lucca

Putty:
This is the most creative Power Rangers cosplay I’ve ever seen.  He even got the body language right.  Bravo.
Cosplay_Putty

Samus:
I appreciate anything homemade (especially when it’s intricate and cool.)
Cosplay_Samus

Steampunk Batman:
He’s got the right facial structure for it, too.  Look at that scowl.
Cosplay_SteampunkBatman

Pedobear:
Why oh why would you go to a con as pedobear?  That’s just asking for trouble.  This guy’s got guts.  Mad props to him.

EMERALD CITY COMIC CON, 2012

Best crossplay ever.  Period.

Cosplay_Misty

This was multiple years before the Lego Movie, so the creativity (and nostalgia) of this guy’s costume blew my mind.

Cosplay_Lego

You see a lot of Ice Kings these days.  But this one had a Gunter (who is my favorite Adventure Time character) so he gets to be displayed here.  (Also, he’s holding a “Behind the Hero” flyer, so you know he’s got good taste.)

Cosplay_IceKing

Cosplay_JokerDoggy

The problem is, as soon as he stops making that expression, he’s not cosplaying anymore.

The next three pics are competing against each other (in my mind) for cutest couple.  Colossus is my favorite X-Man, plus I love the way this guy blended makeup with costume for a full-body look.

Cosplay_ColossusAndKittyPryde

I was working with Scott Lobdell at the time of this particular convention (who happened to be writing Red Hood and the Outlaws at the time.)  I thought he’d get a kick out of this pic.  Hopefully you do, too.

Cosplay_RedHoodandCatwoman

Winner of cutest couple has to go to these two (mostly because April is totally okay with the fact that Casey’s getting blood all over her.)

Cosplay_AprilandCasey

There seemed to be a major TMNT trend at this con.  I like these guys because it’s not often you see all 4 of them together.

Cosplay_TMNT

Okay, I know these shirts don’t technically count as cosplay, but I liked them a lot, and think you will, too.

SUPER CON, 2009

Ryu and Chun Li:
Okay, there’s nothing PARTICULARLY cool about these cosplayers, except that my booth is in the background, so I thought I would throw this pic up here for some shameless self promotion.

Cosplay_RyuandChunLi

Free Kirby Hugs:
Who better to get a free hug from than a giant plushy Kirby?  In case you were wondering, that’s a Dum-dum in his mouth (I was giving them as prizes at my booth.)

Cosplay_KirbyFreeHugs

Red Shirt Zombies:
What a perfect idea!
Cosplay_ZombieRedShirts

WONDER CON, 2009

Captain Benjamin Sisko:
This gentlemen looks exactly like Avery Brooks to me.  Is that racist of me?  Or is there a chance Avery Brooks was actually walking around Wonder Con in a Captain Sisko uniform?

Cosplay_CaptainSisko

Klingons Vs. Henchmen:
I stopped to take this pic because these guys were NOT together.  The Henchmen totally photo bombed a group of attendees trying to take their pics with some Klingons.  I love thinking about what that interaction would have been like if these were characters rather than cosplayers.
Cosplay_KlingonsPhotobomb

That’s all folks!

Thanks for taking a gander!  Hopefully, I’ll see you at the next con.

Until then, make sure you have a happy day!
